Awaking to reality moments later, Biden saw black people devouring fried chicken, and remarked, “You negroes sure are hungry” – then winced.
He immediately realized what he had done and drifted back into limbo.
“Cut!” somebody yelled, and a lady with nice hair came running from the other room.
“The President didn’t mean that,” she said in a trembling voice. “He’s very old; he sometimes says stupid things uncontrollably,” she explained to the astonished black faces who were still holding pieces of chicken.
There was a long, awkward silence.
“Oh well,” whispered a secret service agent to his colleague nearby, “at least he didn’t say nigger.”
